    They don't understand!

My brother, a former soldier of 16 years service, said to me, "what do you want to go and sleep in the woods for?" and " At least I used to get paid for it". But I know that he really loved being in the army and being outdoors, so I think if he could he would probably join me. My other brother...

    Thanks for the birthday song

Thanks to Tony and the Bushcraft UK team for the squashed tomatoes and stew version of the happy birthday song yesterday. That was a nice surprise.:) I got out to the woods and had a nice quiet birthday walk, where I was greeted by a fox, a hare (which tore off at great speed) and many...

    New Ray Mears TV series???

Really looking foreward to this, although half an hour means you just get into it and it feels like it finishes too soon. Hopefully the full hour version will come out on dvd.

    Mycological Meanderings (pic heavy)

I've seen many of these in the woods, but I'm also not confident enough to put them in a pot. Great variety of pics, I like the red and white one second from bottom (to look at not to eat).

A Sign Autumn is En Route

It's funny you should mention spiders, because today I was enjoying a walk in the sunshine next to a ploughed farmers field. I looked across the field with the sun shining on it and I noticed literally hundreds of spiders webs sparkling back at me as far as the eye could see. Now any other time...

If you go down to the woods today...

I found a load of crampballs just lying on the ground the other day. Normally I find them on various dead ash trees around the woods, but these were just laying there, not in a pile but scattered about loose:confused: They are definately easier to light when they have been dried out for a bit.

A Days Herping for Adders - Loadsa pics

Thanks for the tip. If I can get away from the house this weekend, I'll be off looking for lizards and snakes. I have tried, without much luck, before, but I think I'll just take my time and be a bit more patient.
