The Rise and Fall of the Plastic Bag

I think you are probably quite correct in your statement. But this thread has only proved one unequivocal fact to me (peer reviewed by myself).... Life is too short for forums

The Rise and Fall of the Plastic Bag

It was "scientific" fact that the world was flat, until "scientists" proved otherwise. The only thing this proves is that scientists are only right until proven wrong, peer reviewed or not. Carry on................

The Rise and Fall of the Plastic Bag

I will admit to not being the most environmentally careful, but it does irk me when when I see so much unecassary packaging on items. I'v always wondered what would happen if we returned the packaging back to the manufacturers of it, especially if it was done by post without a stamp or use...

    College depression, bleak conservation future

Timid.... no. Unrealistic....Yes. If you want something enough, you will have to make sacrifices to achieve it. That may mean working crap jobs, away from home, sacrificing relationships putting up with people you dislike etc etc. How much do you want it?? 80% of the workforce at my present...

    College depression, bleak conservation future

What are your goals for the course and the future, specific, not wooly aims like "I want to work outside". If you really want something you have to grab it, because you aren't going to get given it, which is the harsh reality. I used to blame the college course I was on for not being what I...

Vans over 3.5 tonne - a legal minefield?

As previously posted, loads of info on expedition portal about fitting out campers/vans for long term use. No big deal living in a van if you have facilities at work I've done it for the last 3 years, as you say, far better sleeping in your own mattress and a load cheaper. I used a Disco 1...

    GPS & Wrong Maps.

If the cyclist was riding the wrong way down the motorway at night without lights, then its very much their fault. If the lorry driver was watching their t.v. while driving in daytime then it was probably the lorry drivers fault. My point being, if the "casualty" decided to go to the mountains...

    GPS & Wrong Maps.

Surely the very fact that they are there means it is very much their own fault.

    Redneck SUP

Out this morning, on its first proper voyage!!!! 4 miles along the coast with a friendly seal following along...total bliss The black blob is the seals head, sorry for the **** poor pic but I had to use the digital zoom and the camera was in a waterproof housing, as is the way with cameras...

    Redneck SUP

I fancied a SUP (stand up paddle board) but the prices are silly. So I picked up a cheap old windsurf board and added an outriggers and an ama, because the windsurf board is narrow and too unstable. After extensive sea trials yesterday, 3 hours at the beach with the family who all enjoyed...

Want to go long distances on a bicycle, but also want to be able to off-road - ideas?

The LHT frame is about a 1-1 1/2lbs heavier than the average hardtail frame, not really a lot of difference in the scheme of things. The complete bikes generally turn out heavier due to the heavier equipment used 36 spoke wheels etc. all stuff that can be tweaked to suit if you build your own.

Things that just blow you mind.

That Quantum theories state that everything is linked. Change something here and something potentially millions of light years away has to change to compensate.

Want to go long distances on a bicycle, but also want to be able to off-road - ideas?

Have a look at Crazy Guy On A Bike. Surly long haul trucker seems to be the default bike that can eat the miles and handle the rough stuff. Depends on how rough your trails are and your skill level. Personally, I would avoid front suspension for doing miles, I used to ride/race 8" travel full...

Got my Land Rover Defender :)

Not bad at all. The leaks you have shown are perfectly normal for a landie, don't worry, get used to having an oil slick on the drive way. The shock looks like its blown so replacement is required. Don't worry about the clutch its probably been changed already as they last around 120k miles...
