    identify this axe please?

thanks for the input guys. I have a decent wetterlings hatchet that I'd use for actual wood cutting/splitting, I was just looking for a thinner "carving" hatchet, and I can't tell by most pictures if the other carvers available are that thin. Is the gransfors a good carving hatchet?

    identify this axe please?

Hi all. saw this clip on BF and thought that the axe looks fantastic for carving. Anyone know who makes it or something similar? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pJFpn-GkPI&feature=feedrec_grec_index Cheers

    lightweight leuku style knife

it would have to be a reference to the false edge, some people like them some dont. adds to stabbing ability only, it would actually reduce its chopping efficiency by reducing tip weight and strength. "combat" leuku is a funny name, I'd 'ave called it a shazwazza Nice work, keep it up

    Cold steel Trail Hawk

you pretty much need to for it to be useable. If you just wanted to hack heads it would be fine, but for any real world use you need to sharpen it and get rid of the tacky coating and spend a little bit of time on the handle. I'm still waiting on the rest of Martyn's thread

    Survival v Bushcraft?

survival knife is the one you have with you. Bushcraft is the one you take for a somewhat planned trip. Designed for what you intend. To me a survival knife must be able to chop, slice, hack, stab and skin. You should be able to fillet a fish, stab a wild boar, chop down a small tree for...

    looking for ideas (sheath system)

Thats a nice one FGYT, is it yours? Which model? Exploriment that is a very nice bit of work you've done there, looks like it would serve well. Lots of storage which is what I'm after. Thanks for the pics Marcel, it was Martin's technical kydex that got me thinking. I'm toying with the idea of...

    looking for ideas (sheath system)

Hi there. I have decided that I'd like to make a sheath for my CRK Mountaineer 1 So what I'm thinking is having a large pouch that has a knife sheath behind it. I'd like to able to keep all my last ditch gear in it (back ups to back ups, basic stuff like minimalist survival.) I'm...

    Improve a knife

I think one of the biggest mods would be re profiling the edge, convexing etc. I also find that sheaths are often something that is lacking in most production knives. Sure they are adequate, but do you want more? I don't have the skills to do what I want with my current bush knife (a CRK one...

    pig sticker

Gday Kimmo, nice dagger that, but I really prefer your own work (I've seen it on Laventrix) would definitely do the job on pigs or other large white meated game ;)

Wanted Chris Reeve Knives (CRK) Fixed blade

Hi there. Looking for a 4-5" bladed hollow handled CRK knife, like the Mountaineer 1. Prefer used but new is ok. I have other knives to trade (mostly small utility knives, a couple of folders and a custom karambit) and am happy to do multiples or cash+trade or work something out. Anyone...

Bear Grylls & Rob Bayley Split Up!?

I'm a little sad, I went to the Bayley page and the wait time for knives is 7 years and not taking orders. I'd love to have one just to use I think Bear is fantastic. Great entertainment. About as educational as Jackass but worth a watch and laugh. I watch it to see what he'll do next and...

    sweet little B & T

thats not a bad looker, I'm not too keen on the handle/guard but the blade is fantastic! who is responsible for its creation?

    Knife making kit

I would use araldite, but not the five minute one, use the 24 hour or even longer. Is the blade already shaped? If it is I'd say a G clamp would be fine to clamp the blade to the table with the handle hanging over the edge and use files and sandpaper to shape. good luck

    Penknives and the sharpening thereof

sharpening any knife is all about repetition and consistency. same angles over and over If it is rubbish to start with, start out coarse and work your way down. Get a permanent marker and mark the edge, you will see where you are removing metal, you may find that you aren't removing enough...

How To Grind A Blank With An Angle Grinder

using the hand belt sander put it upside down in a vice or wedge between two bricks or similar so it is reasonably stable, then use it like a bench belt sander. bench grinder and angle grinder are very rough tools, if you were to use either you would have to finish with files and sandpaper.
