    Camera recommendations

As alot of folk have already said. Go for the best lens you can afford and pair it with a lower end body. But firstly, go to a decent camera shop and try all the different makes to what feels nice. I have a Nikon D500 but my partner finds it way too big for her small hands, so has a Nikon Z6ii...

    Stove Choice?

with the summer in full flow, i'd definitely avoid anything that burns wood etc (fire risk), some places even have a full ban (best to check before you go). I love my trangias, large and small, but if you're cooking for 3, either the 27, or a small gas stove i reckon would be best. I guess it...

    Family backpacking, Scottish routes?

having crewed for a mate on the west highland way uber, ultra marathon, it is a tough route in parts. But from Tyndrum or Bridge of Orchy onwards, it is a lovely route, with plenty of Bail points. Not sure about public transport overall, but Tyndrum and Bridge of Orchy certainly have train...

Chamaenerion angustifolium - Fireweed - Any use?

Very similar to a strong black tea. Frangrant but not like a fruit tea. Really very good (and i'm a coffee man )

Chamaenerion angustifolium - Fireweed - Any use?

The tea is delicious. We always ferment and dry a load this time of year.

    Red light head torch

+1 for the fenix. The red light has been fabulous for watching our resident hedgehog. That is until he decided to move in, making the torch irrelivent, lol!

    Wood ear mushrooms

Whatever folk decide to call them (jelly ear in this house), Dry them, then rehydrate them in cherry brandy. Dip in melted dark chocolate, cool in the fridge and serve as a sneaky snack over xmas, lol! they are very morish!

    Roselli axe

I've had one for years. There used to be a review online somewhere, comparing it with the GB SFA. Came out pretty well. As others have said, it's not a tool for fine work, but, once you get the knack of it, it works surprisingly well. Amazing for splitting.

The Ultimate "What is this Fungi?" thread.

not sure on the top 2 without more pics. but i'm confident C is a Bay Bolette and D is a type of Honey Fungus (especially if you say it was in a big group on dead wood).

    Strapping kit to a rucksack?

Yeah, seems to be a big fad at the moment amongst mainland european outdoors folk. All your kit strapped to the outside. Knives, mugs, axes. All a bit much really. Everything snugged inside so you know where it is and far less likely to have it ripped off while trying to bash through a conifer...

    A very sad day

May She rest in Peace! She certainly deserves it. We can only hope that King Charles 3rd can step up during these weird and scary times.

Swedish army trangia + gas adapter

Oh yes, mines a genuine one and i've never had a problem. Just heard stories that the aluminium can deform in the heat of an open fire. Hence why DC has done it in SS.

has anyone looked at making a coracle boat

i've made a couple over the years. Willow is perfect for the frame work, long and thin coppice, soaked in water for at least a week. Any half decent wood for the seat. The trick is getting the layout right, building upside down. draw your outline in the ground. At equal points, put your long...

Swedish army trangia + gas adapter

Dave Canterbury at Pathfinder has been developing a modern version in SS. Not available in the UK yet (not sure about the USA). But looks like a pretty faithful copy. The Old issue ones in Ali aren't the best around a fire as they can distort if it gets too hot.
