No cool names for the piece of kit I'm after!

I'm looking for a bum bag with about the capacity of the bottom half of a munro....obviously stability and comfort are key. Such a thing doesn't seem to exist in UK.

Grateful for any recommendations!

Thanks

Thanks Rich.

Bottom of a munro? 15-20L

The maxpedition stuff looks too 'fussy' to me -too many little zipped pouches that'd always be the wrong size for whatever you want to put in it!

Although not a bum bag per se, but in my civilian life I use a messenger bag, which works well with the mentioned loads. Especially if you strap it with the chest/waist strap. Timbuk2 makes a huge variety.

YMMV

I'm getting one of these to go travelling. Goes over the shoulder, manbag style, or around the waist. It's 2L capacity, which is more than big enough to be around your waist. I like this precisely because it doesn't look 'military'.

I also looked at Golite Hydrocruise which is 4.5L, but I don't need the bottle holders.

You could also check out Kifaru 'Tailgunner 1" or 'Scout' (15L ish) but they are mega expensive.

15 - 20 l guys! bumbags like the snuggler are about 1l at best.

I know it's been put forward already but Maxpedition are the only company I have found that do a truly large true bumbag the Maxpedition Sabercat Versipack, but even that probably only holds 5l. I spent ages looking for one that could hold a large SLR camera without it advertising the fact that it was a camera bag. I gave up in the end and went for the Maxpedition Larkspur.

It's not a bum bag, but does have the benefit of a waist cinch strap for added stability (see the pics on their site). Failing that, the only other thing I can think of is something like my TOPS Bandolier Bag http://www.sofmilitary.co.uk/military/index.asp.

If you check out S.O.F they have a range of largish bags that have molle clips which enable them to be clipped on to a service belt. That may also be a viable option. Let us know how you get on.

Cheers

I have a Maxp Sabrecat and the last thing it is is"fussy".

It is big enough for summer overnighters - and as comfy as anything I have worn.

The pockets are plenty big enough for a FAK etc and the main pocket is deceptively big. The only "fault", if you can call it that, is that you have to add a water bottle pouch to it...in fact I have two, one on each side at the front (a Maxp 10 x 4 pouch for a nalgene and an Auscam waterbottle pouch for a 58Patt bottle).

As Rich has said already, not the cheapest option (I bought mine used from a member here), but a solid, well made piece of kit that you never need to replace.

Thanks fellows, some useful links there.

Tetra neon has hit the nail on the head:

But I'm having trouble with the idea of 200-odd quid for a bum bag ! :) ...hence my hunt for alternatives.

I bought a snugpack response thing years back, it's sat in a cupboard ever since, small and fiddly; apologies if I caused offence over the maxpedition bigger equivalent -but that's just what it looks like to my eye ! :)

My thoughts range between something put together with coyote brown pouches on a coyote molle belt (just haven't spotted the right pouches for a bum bag yet!) the SO Tech Mission go bag looks good.

Alternatively, (thinking back to the kifaru tailgunner start point) I'm quite taken with the look of this: http://www.badlandspacks.com/monster.php

Sorry...I couldn't let this go without mention, but just checked out the link from the US site in the link above...this is a quote
"The Monster Fanny is as close to perfection as we have ever come."

By all means delete the post if you think it inappropriate...couldn't help smiling though.

Didn't notice that; outstanding spot; that's made me laugh!

That does look like a good pack.
Around $130 is the best I can find so far, I quite fancy one. I have a sabrecat at the moment, and it can hold a massive amount of stuff.

I picked up a 5.11 push from SoF a couple of months back and can highly recommend it - has several molle points to additional carrying capacity :D
