Yes I think that it would be good to recover those tools and skills that are effectively lost or being lost. Its always the 'how did they do that?'..which facinates me. The article says that the team are only halfway through the dig, so there may well be more suprises yet. Fingers crossed....

Used Bronze Age chisels, they work well and hold their edge. Some challenges with their tangs as their wedge shaped ends tend to split conventional handles. Probably why socketed chisels came into use. One example has a bone handle that would be even less resistant to splitting and might have been used to pare rather than shisel. Others have posted on bronze axes and adzes and their effectiveness.

I worked on the replica bronze age Dover boat and used bronze axes and adzes every day for three months. At first I could not believe we were going to work with tools that were so soft, (45 rockwell) but by the end I loved them and could carve an ash canoe paddle as fast (25 mins) with the bronze tools as with steel.

Robin, did you have to sharpen the edge often?
Or did you modify your "steel technique" to a "bronze technique" ? Thinking striking angle, force of blow.
