    guy line tensioners

Has anyone used a clam cleat set up in reverse, for a tent guy line? I.e. a fixed loop on the peg, and the adjustable loop passing through the attachment point on the tent? Advantage would be you could easily tie off to something such as a branch or stump of heather, while still being able to...

    Ready meals

That's a good find. Compares very favourably to the wayfayrer boil in bags in terms of calories, and a bit cheaper too. I find the wayfayrers tasty but a bit on the greasy side, which makes my stomach feel disquieted. So I'll be trying these.

    No right to roam.

Maybe I should clarify my earlier comment. Just because I've not felt restricted in terms of access, doesn't mean that others feel that way and that I think 'the rules' are ok. Having said that, I dont know where the lines should be drawn in terms of land access. Clearly the fight for access to...

    No right to roam.

I had a thought which surprised me somewhat: I've always been envious of Scotland's light to roam. My stomping grounds are the lake district, peak district and Snowdonia. So I've tried to think of examples of spots that I've wanted to roam, but haven't been able to due to restrictions - and I...

    No right to roam.

My thoughts are that demonising one side or the other doesn't help matters, and in real life, we're not so easily divisible into 'urban people' or 'country people' and so on. But we do live in a culture that encourages devisevness. There's a common denominator to the problems afflicting the...

Bushcraft tools that could be classed as weapons?

I think I'd quite enjoy seeing two people trying to fight with trangias. I guess you could wear them as helmets?

    Motorola defy satellite link

Hello forum. If anyone, like me, was thinking of buying the Motorola defy satellite link for sos purposes then beware. The company (bullit) that runs the satellite service it uses gas gone bust. This is a shame as it was significantly cheaper than the Garmin in reach which seems to be the...

    Emergency dental course?

I'd aspire to that. Interesting. There was a time in our history where bad teeth was a leading (or at least significant?) cause of death, if I'm not mistaken. Presumably this coincided with trade and an increased consumption of sugar?

    Military Surplus Tents/Bashas/Bivvies

I have a growing wish for a laavu. I always love the look of them in pictures. I think it's been a subconscious thing for quite a while now.

The Uninitiated but keen to see the cold.

If you're hill walking, take two pairs of gloves. One to wear and one stuffed down inside your clothing. Then if / when the pair you're wearing get damp or cold, you can swap them. Some kind of thin merino wool balaclava. Cotswolds sell them. Sounds like you will be camping? If so, in addition...
