Hi Jon, It was indeed a special place and I'll second Chris's comment that everyone had a great time. Thanks for getting us all together and I'm so sorry that you couldn't make it and sad to hear of your stepfathers passing. F.Y.I -Those of us who stayed until the Sunday for the clean up and tat down agreed upon a meeting at the end of October at Loch Maree.

It's Always Tea-Time.

Thanks March Hare. The Highland Bushcraft Gathering belongs equally to all those who invest their time and passion. Everybody I've spoken to has said it was an enjoyable time with people sharing with generosity and humility. A particular thanks to Jason who by all accounts brought some impressive skills and experience and shared his fire making talents.

An event page has already gone up for the Loch Maree meet on the 28th of October. I know you all discussed a theme for each meet, with "food" being the possible theme for the next meet, to include wild edibles, open-fire cooking etc.

I hope this will grow organically into something regular with decisions reached by mutual accord where all feel welcome to add their input. More will be discussed as the weeks go by I'm sure.

I look forward to taking part in the next meet. Until then....

Hello all,

Due to family and professional commitments I had to take step back from the organising of the upcoming meets. I've spoken to a core attendee and the next meet for the 28th of October is a go. There was some discussion about making it Loch Maree but everyone has decided to go back to Loch Ussie with a more concerted effort to make it out to the island. All who attended will be familiar with the location, parking etc. All newcomers are welcome. I believe Jason and the guys have decided to create a theme for each meet to focus the event and the theme next meet will be food/cooking/edibles. I expect at least someone will bring a pumpkin pie ;)

I will definitely be in attendance and look forward to meeting some of you.

To confirm:

Highland Bushcraft Gathering II
Friday 28th of October 15:00 - Sunday 30th October
Loch Ussie, Western shore and islets

Any questions please don't hesitate to contact via PM.

Slainte!

A Facebook page has gone up for the next meet. For those that don't use FB you can send me your email via PM and I'll add you to the invite list so that you can still view the page. I'll also update the thread here with any updates or changes.

This will be the Autumn event focusing on food. There will also be a winter meet in January. Any questions please PM.

Thanks for the update MG, didn't have a clue that Loch Maree had been changed to Loch Ussie.
I'll PM you.

Well I for one will not be attending. As grown men in the woods we decided to meet at Loch Maree, in real time looking each other in the eyes. So it seems 'somebody' has taken it upon themselves to be our leader and become chief organizer. It's been more than 30 years since I was in the boy scouts, I don't need a leader. The first meet up was great, I felt part of something special that had the ability to grow and evolve naturally. Like most things that go on to fb they turn to ****e. What?,was it too much out of the comfort zone to scout a new site, so you've got to go back to the same place?
Oooh, we might make it to the island this time, whoopee!

In my opinion a good thing has been ruined! Next there be a chairman and a treasurer, A.G.M's and yearly subscriptions. Whatever happened to Highland bush moot belongs to all that take part.

If it sounds like I'm bitter, that's because I am. I've seen it so many times before. Well go on, toddle off into the woods, dib dib dib, maybe you'll get your bush tucker badge.

with decisions reached by mutual accord where all feel welcome to add their input. More will be discussed as the weeks go by I'm sure.

Unfortunately it seems that common decency and manners are not practised by all bushcrafters.

Apparently there have been 'discussions' but with some folks excluded, not exactly 'mutual accord' and how is one able to add their 'input'? Perhaps some of us are not 'welcome'?

Having swapped PM's with Jon (Mountain Ghost) I get the feeling that this is not as he wanted it to be.

Perhaps the 'organisers' could find some time to come on here and explain their actions? Maybe I and others have upset or offended them in some way, not sure how, but if so, come on here, post a reply and let everyone know, just leave out any BS!

I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea, my observations were that it was a good meet, everyone seemed to get along well and a good time was had by all. I've no problems with anyone, I liked you all , and couldn't care less if you wish to exclude me and others for whatever reason. I'm extremely happy with my own solo adventures but meeting up and sharing things can be nice too.

All I ask is for a bit honesty and decency!

Aye, I had no idea the meet location had been changed until I read it on here, I was pretty amped up for Loch Maree too.

However, having said that, it's about the people not the place. So I'm happy to meet anywhere if it means enjoying good company and sharing skills, as THAT is what it's all about :)

i totally agree with dreadhead. i am a little disappointed that we're not going to loch maree but that ok. i dont think anything nasty or underhanded is going on. as far as im concerned this bushcraft thing is just a bit of fun and a good distraction from the day to day rubbish. there could be a good reason the venue change or communication breakdown but hay ho that's life. what ever happens i hope the next meet is as good as the last and we should not let this ruin a great thing.

So sorry guys I have been signed off Facebook and Google and not been able to get on either and just joined up bushcraft UK so sorry for the lack of communication
With everyone I was wanting to put all the guys at the meet as administrators on the fb page but I can't even get onto it myself
The reason of the change of venues is Jason kindly offered to take a lot of stuff on food
And different ways of cooking so there is going to be tables the parachute and group shelter
For all the different ways of cooking foods
It was just all the logistics of getting all the stuff to loch maree
But this is a group thing and if there is more people want to go to loch maree thats what we should do
We will just have to do less with the food

So we all know what everyone wants who is coming
Can you please all put up ussie or maree then we can do it
Sorry again for any hert feelings
Anywhere will be good
Good people good times

Thanks for coming on and clarifying the situation Ben, really appreciated. I'm not sure if there are hurt feelings, just some confusion!

I'm not sure on how many of the folks are members on here but it seems to be quite a few, perhaps this should be the place for communication?

Loch Maree gets my vote

I know there's some of us with water transport, does anybody else have an open canoe / kayak / boat or access to one?
