I'm thinking of buying this knife,

basically I love Bear, can't get enough of him,

but would the fact that the knife is not full tang put you off?

Would I be better saving for a Fallkniven F1?

Tell me this is a wind up?

I handled one last year and it didn't strike me as a quality tool I must say.

Get the F1

yes i'm looking for the best knife for £100 or under.

I know it was a silly question as the Bear knife has tons of bad reviews...but I like the half serrations on blade.

Have you ever used a knife with serrations for bushcrafty work?
Not at all ideal IMHO.

You'd probably find the serrations more of a hindrance than a benefit, but of course it all depends on how you want to use it. I prefer a plain blade especially up near the handle as that's where I do most of my cutting.

For £100 you could pick up a more versatile tool from one of our makers.

No sorry, I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to bushcraft..so I wouldn't have known that serrations are not good.

That's where forums come good, you get to learn from other folks mistakes :)

You'll get very little lip on here which makes this place special compared to a lot of other forums, any questions fire away and you'll always get useful responses.

Anyways, I think I'll stick with my new Dajo survivor knife until it breaks before I buy a new one....

A good plan:)
That will give you time not only to save for a good knife but also to know what you realy want in a knife :)
Plus experience in knife use and sharpening ...but hopefully not too much first aid practice :D

strongly agree, its easy to waste your hard earned cash by jumping in for the first nice shinny knife you like. use the one you have and try to understand what you use it for then make your choice

Robevs73 is looking for a sensible offer on one of his superb bushtools on this very page, if you can get the cash it would be a bargain purchase at this time, A1 quality

handmade knife that outdoes th F1 and BG knife in all departments IMO.

Bear and his knife kind of remind me of the movie Toy Story:

Woody: All right, that's enough! Look, we're all very impressed with Bear's new toy.
Buzz: Toy?
Woody: T-O-Y, Toy!
Buzz: Excuse me, I think the word you're searching for is "Survival Knife".
Woody: The word I'm searching for I can't say because there's preschool toys present.

Sorry I'll get my coat

A Mora Clipper or better yet, the new Companion model would be far and away a much better knife than the BG gadget. I am completely serious, any Mora would be better design and quality than the BG Gerber made in China thingy.

If you like BG and like the look of the knife then go for it. It's certainly not my thing, but I have actually played with one and you know what, it is OK. It's well made and robust. I can't knock it for it's price point and people it's aimed at. And that's saying something as I'm a terrible knife snob.

The reviews I have seen talked about it coming to pieces in heavy usage... I take it that this has been resolved then?
