Dorset for good...!!
I have two pairs of HJ's.... over 20 years old and still going strong....
I believe they were called HJ Indestructibles....
Don't wear them on a daily basis, mind you... :yelrotflm

My dad used to wear Indestructibles might try some and see if they stand up to a border terrier!

For bang for the buck, I don't think Aldi's trekking socks can be beaten.

They do 2 good kinds; a right and left pair with ergonomic pads and some Tactel lined(same as 1000 mile socks) socks which are my main users now. The Bridgedales, Trek-lites and various other expensive socks get left at home for the £2.50/pair Aldi specials :)

Thanks for the heads up. I'll get SWMBO to pick some up. Aldi rocks!!

I like Smartwool, Bridgedale and the rest for hiking, but for workaday boot socks I've been getting these Dutch ones from Endicotts for a while - I like them a lot, much better than the standard 'combat' type (e.g. HL) ones I was buying there previously - a bit more expensive, but the sizing is better, and I find them more comfortable and they last longer - after some wear and washing they almost start to felt up. If you like 'combat'-type socks (with all they entail), I'd recommend trying out a pair:
